About JD Watches

The story of JD Watches begins in the 90s, when Aleksandr Matatov immigrated to America with his wife, and at the time, two kids. Coming here with nothing but a few dollars, Aleksandr set his sights on achieving the American dream. Over thirty years later, he looks back and sees that he’s achieved more than the American dream. He’s achieved a legacy that few others have achieved.

Aleksandr’s first taste of the jewelry industry came when he opened a small booth on Canal Street in lower Manhattan. At the time, his first son Robert began working with him. Slowly, but surely, the two of them began growing the small family business, eventually opening more than one location on the same block.

In 2003, they migrated to Midtown Manhattan, opening a wholesale jewelry business in the famous Diamond District. JD watches, formerly known as Johnny’s Diamonds, started in a three-room office on 47 th street. It was Alex, his wife Lily, and their son Robert who started the business. Eventually, the younger son, Jonathan, joined into the family business, along with Robert’s three cousins.

Over 20 years later, JD Watches has grown to a full floor on 46 th street, with a lot more than three rooms, and employs over 20 people. At its core, it is still a family business. Our clients become an extension of our family, and our family grows larger and larger each year.

What started out a small booth on Canal Street, slowly over time, grew into an empire on 46th Street. The key was to never stop.
